Gubernija, celebrating its 360th anniversary, won 4 medals at the prestigious World Beer Awards competition

Gubernija has once again strengthened its position among the best breweries. Lithuania’s oldest brewery repeated last year’s success at the recently concluded World Beer Awards 2025 in the United Kingdom, taking home four awards – two gold, one silver, and one bronze.

The authoritative World Beer Awards jury awarded two gold medals to Gubernija’s non-alcoholic Extra lager, silver to the alcoholic Extra lager, and bronze to the non-alcoholic kiwi and gooseberry Radler. According to the international panel, Gubernija’s non-alcoholic Extra lager beer this year was recognized as the best non-alcoholic lager in Lithuania among the entries.

Harmony of tradition and innovation

“We are proud to stand on the podium among the best brewers for several years in a row. The foundation of our daily work is respect for centuries-old traditions, authenticity, constant innovation, and impeccable quality. This year’s awards confirm those values. The gold and silver medals reflect the influence of old traditions, as they were won by beers of classic recipes – lagers. The bronze, meanwhile, is recognition of courage and creativity, since the non-alcoholic kiwi and gooseberry radler is a new addition, a completely fresh product,” says Mindaugas Bistrickas, production director of Gubernija, part of MV Group Production.

The World Beer Awards 2025 competition featured more than 3,000 beer products from around the globe, judged by a panel of nearly 40 taste professionals led by drinks expert, British journalist and writer Pete Brown.

Experts who awarded two gold medals to Gubernija’s non-alcoholic Extra lager praised its bright amber color, gentle hop bitterness, and expressive malt flavor, which give the beer lightness and a subtle uniqueness.

The classic Extra lager, representing Gubernija’s traditions, received silver for its delicate and light taste, revealed through the balance of moderate hop bitterness and malt sweetness. The use of Saphir hops gives this beer a lasting flavor and aroma.

The World Beer Awards jury gave bronze to the non-alcoholic kiwi and gooseberry radler for its refreshingly sweet aroma created by the unique fruit duo, harmoniously balanced with pleasantly bitter non-alcoholic beer.

“The four medals are a wonderful gift for our anniversary year and yet another proof that 360 years of accumulated experience and constant improvement allow us to compete with the world’s best brewers,” notes M. Bistrickas.

Medals have become a trend

The World Beer Awards is one of the most prestigious international beer competitions, celebrating the best beers from across the world. Organized for many years by the largest professional drinks platform thedrinksreport.com, the competition’s highest-rated products are traditionally considered the best in the world within their categories. Breweries from all over the globe submit their beers, which are judged by renowned tasters, brewing industry professionals, traders, journalists, and beer sommeliers from Brazil, Belgium, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, India, Chile, South Korea, and many other countries.

Gubernija’s strong results at the World Beer Awards are becoming a tradition. Last year, the beverages of Lithuania’s oldest brewery also earned four awards – experts gave gold medals in the lager category to Gubernija’s Extra lager and German Pils pilsner. Silver went to Brown Ale and the non-alcoholic Extra lager.

Meanwhile, the 2023 competition was the absolute triumph of the non-alcoholic Brown Ale – this Gubernija beer was chosen as the world’s best non-alcoholic beer of the year, as well as the best dark non-alcoholic beer in the world.
